In Inventing on Principle, Victor demonstrates environments that bring a creator into immediate contact with what they are making. Change a program or a parameter, and its consequences become visible.
The talk offers a way to approach design through a guiding concern. Its examples are most rewarding when watched: the behaviour of the medium carries the argument.
Learnable Programming asks what an environment should reveal to someone trying to understand a program. Its interactive examples explore ways to see state, follow execution and relate parts of a system.
The essay is itself a demonstration. Moving through it gives the reader an experience of the representations it proposes.
Victor now describes his life’s work in terms of a humane dynamic medium. His current site points to Dynamicland and a dynamic library, extending the inquiry into shared physical space.
His own account names Kay, Papert and Engelbart among important sources. Following those references reveals a conversation across generations, alongside the work of the Dynamicland team.
