Privacy

Dæmon uses PostHog, hosted in the United States, to understand which pages and works people explore. We record page visits, opening a work’s options, and clicks to media providers, along with basic browser and device information and the referring website’s domain. We also measure loading speed, responsiveness and layout stability to improve the site.

This analytics setup does not use persistent cookies or browser storage, create personal profiles, or record your screen. Its temporary identifier lasts only for the current page. We remove URL queries and fragments and disable IP-based location enrichment. PostHog still receives your IP address as part of the network connection.

We honour your browser’s Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals by disabling analytics. Local development, preview domains, the private editor and contribution pages are excluded.

Some media links are Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Once you visit Amazon or another provider, their own privacy policies apply. Our outbound click counts do not tell us what you purchase.

Your settings

The home page remembers how you like to browse (grid or canvas, how large the cards are, and whether you were looking at your library) in this browser’s local storage, so it is there next time. That setting stays on your device: it is never sent to us or to analytics. Cards you download as images are drawn in your browser and are not uploaded anywhere.

Videos

Some profiles show YouTube videos. Until you press play, nothing is requested from YouTube or Google: the poster image is a copy kept on Dæmon’s own servers and the player is not loaded. When you press play, your browser loads the player from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, so Google receives your IP address and browser details and may set cookies or store data in your browser while the video plays. Their privacy policy applies from that moment. Dæmon’s analytics does not see what happens inside the player. The “Watch on YouTube” link beneath each video is an ordinary link to YouTube.

Patronage

If you contribute, Stripe handles your payment details. Dæmon stores your name, email, contribution preferences and payment references to administer your support. We do not store card numbers. Payment and contact details are never shown on public patron or sponsor pages.

Public recognition is optional. If you opt in, we review your chosen name and social or organisation links before publishing them. To change or remove a listing, contact sponsors@daemon.guide. Recurring payments can be managed through the Stripe billing link on our support page.

Reader accounts

You can make an account to keep a library of luminaries, collections, tags and followed arcs, and to remember how far you have read. We store your email address, your name if you give one, your sign-in methods (an email link, a passkey’s public key, or your Apple identifier), and your library. There is no password.

Sign-in links are sent through Resend. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple tells us your email address or a private relay address. Your library and account pages are never sent to analytics, and the pages that show them are excluded from measurement.

You can download everything we hold from your library page, and delete your account there at any time. Deletion is permanent and removes your library and sign-ins from our database straight away.
