Zoo Quest joined location filming with studio presentation. Its collecting practices belong to an earlier institutional era, while its field attention helped establish television natural history.
As controller of BBC Two and later director of programmes, Attenborough backed colour television and a broad schedule. He left management to return to programme-making.
Life on Earth, The Living Planet and The Trials of Life used global filming and evolutionary structure to make behavior and ecology visible at scale.
The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and later films extended the technical reach of wildlife crews. Attenborough increasingly addressed climate disruption and biodiversity loss directly, including in A Life on Our Planet.
